LENT
2008
Lent is a time of renewal, a time of penance, in which we prepare
ourselves spiritually for Easter. This
year Lent begins on Ash Wednesday,
February 6, 2008
. We pray:
Merciful God, look upon us as we enter these Forty Days bearing the mark
of ashes, and bless our journey through the
desert
of
Lent
to the font of rebirth.
May our fasting be hunger for justice; our aims, a making of peace; our
prayer, the chant of humble and grateful hearts.
All we do and pray is the name of Jesus, for in his cross you proclaim
your love. Amen.
Ash Wednesday, February 6th
Masses
with the distribution of ashes will be at
8:00 a.m.
,
12:00
noon
&
7:00 p.m.
at St. Mary’s
And
at
6:00 p.m.
at
St.
Francis Xavier
Ash Wednesday is a
day of fast and abstinence. All
those 14 years of age and older should refrain from meat and those 18-59 years
old should eat only 2 partial meals (adds up to one meal) and 1 full meal if
their health permits.
Fridays
during Lent are days of abstinence from meat.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Stations
of the Cross will be held in the little church on Fridays during Lent at
6:00 p.m.
and will be followed by a soup meal served
by
various organizations at St. Mary’s.
Archbishop’s
Appeal 2008
The 2008 Archbishop Appeal Direct Mail Campaign began last Monday.
The Archbishop and I, as pastor of St. Mary’s ask you to pledge your
financial support for the ministries and services of the Church through the 2008
Archbishop’s Appeal. This is your
opportunity to unite in faith with Catholics throughout our community to share a
portion of your blessings and demonstrate your concern for others and the work
of the archdiocese.
Commitment Sunday for the 2008 Archbishop’s Appeal will occur in every
parish throughout the archdiocese on February 16th and 17th.
This is our annual opportunity, as members of the larger church, to unite
with other people of the archdiocese and share our blessings.
This outreach demonstrates our commitment and concern for each other and
in building God’s Kingdom. Your
generous gift will assist in supporting the ministries and services of the
archdiocese. Thank you for your
prayers and for reaching out to others through the Archbishop’s Appeal.

Fr. Enda McKenna
THANKS!
St. Mary’s Parish wants to say THANK
YOU, STEPHANIE, for your years of faithful service as head of the Lector
Ministry. After so many years of
scheduling lectors for our parish, initiating workshops, and coordinating with
other ministries, Stephanie Alford has handed over the reins.
We hope that the “extra” time you will have will be blessed time with
your family. All of the best of
blessings, faithful servant.
And we say “Hello” and Thanks for taking over Stephanie’s vacated
spot” to Mike Elvir. Mike is a
Master Lector, having become certified in that position while living in the
Dallas - Fort Worth Diocese. He has
“taught” lecturing for some 20 years. We
thank him for stepping up to fill Stephanie’s shoes.
We appreciate you, Mike.
